WEST CHICAGO IMPACTED SOIL REMOVAL
PROJECT SUMMARY
Past industrial activities at the site resulted in shallow soil impacts from metals and semi-volatile organic compounds. Subsurface studies have defined the extent of these impacts, showing contaminant levels that, while not classified as hazardous, exceed the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s soil remediation objectives.

To support future redevelopment, the City of West Chicago initiated the removal of impacted soils from designated areas of the property. BCC performed excavation of the contaminated soil and transported the soil to an approved offsite disposal facility. After removing the contaminated soil, BCC imported and placed clean fill to restore the site back to existing grade, preparing the property for future development.

The project consisted of:

-
Demolition of concrete pads
-
Excavation, transportation, and offsite disposal of 6,000 CY of contaminated soil to a Subtitle D landfill
-
Imported and placed 6,000 CY of clay and clean soil
